Li Auto, a leading electric vehicle manufacturer, has achieved a significant milestone in its collaboration with CATL, one of the world’s largest battery manufacturers. As of the end of May, Li Auto has delivered a total of 1,301,531 vehicles, with CATL playing a crucial role as its primary battery supplier.
The partnership between Li Auto and CATL recently reached a new milestone as the one millionth CATL battery pack for Li Auto rolled off the production line. This achievement was celebrated by both companies, with CATL’s founder, chairman, and CEO Robin Zeng, and Li Auto’s founder, chairman, and CEO Li Xiang witnessing the momentous occasion.
Initially, Li Auto exclusively used CATL batteries for its vehicles. However, in a strategic move to diversify its battery suppliers and enhance its supply chain resilience, Li Auto introduced Sunwoda and Svolt Energy as additional battery suppliers in February 2023. This decision proved to be beneficial, with Sunwoda and Svolt Energy collectively supplying around 300,000 battery packs to Li Auto by the end of May.
CATL highlighted the success of its collaboration with Li Auto, noting that the cumulative delivery volume of Li Auto vehicles equipped with CATL batteries has nearly reached one million units. Importantly, there have been no incidents of thermal runaway caused by battery issues, showcasing the high quality and safety standards of CATL batteries.
As a global leader in EV battery production, CATL boasts an extensive customer base, having served over 19.25 million vehicles as of April. The company’s EV battery installation volume from January to April saw a significant increase, reaching 117.6 GWh, a 42.4 percent year-on-year growth. With a market share of 38.1 percent, CATL maintains its position as the world’s top supplier of EV batteries, surpassing all competitors with a market share exceeding 30 percent.
Li Auto currently offers a range of electric vehicle models, including the Li L6, Li L7, Li L8, Li L9, and Li Mega. These models cater to different consumer preferences, with the L series featuring extended-range SUV models and the Li Mega offering a pure electric MPV model. In May, Li Auto delivered 40,856 vehicles, representing a 16.66 percent year-on-year increase and a 20.38 percent month-on-month growth.
The successful partnership between Li Auto and CATL underscores the importance of collaboration in advancing the electric vehicle industry. By leveraging the expertise of leading battery manufacturers like CATL and continuously innovating in battery technology, Li Auto remains at the forefront of sustainable mobility solutions.
