Deepal, the new energy vehicle (NEV) arm of Changan Automobile (SHE: 000625), recently unveiled its latest model, the S05 compact SUV. This new model follows the successful launch of the S07 SUV on July 25th and is available in both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants.
The S05 was introduced at an event in Chongqing, where Deepal is headquartered, on October 20th. Priced starting at RMB 119,900 ($16,880), the S05 offers customers a choice between BEV and EREV options. Deliveries of the S05 began immediately after the launch, with Deepal promising to compensate customers for any delays in delivery.
The S05 is available in four BEV variants and two EREV variants, catering to the preferences of car buyers in the evolving electric vehicle market. The BEV variants start at RMB 119,900, RMB 125,900, RMB 125,900, RMB 135,900, and RMB 145,900, respectively. On the other hand, the two EREV variants start at RMB 139,900 and RMB 149,900.
This compact SUV measures 4,620 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,880 mm. The BEV version of the S05 is powered by a single electric motor generating a maximum power of 175 kW and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.
The BEV variant comes equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery with a capacity of 56.12 kWh, offering a range of 510 km on a single charge. On the other hand, the EREV variant is powered by a 1.5 L displacement engine with a maximum system power of 160 kW and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. The EREV model features a lithium iron phosphate battery with a capacity of 27.28 kWh, providing a pure electric range of 200 km and a combined range of 1,234 km when fully fueled and charged.
Deepal, Changan’s NEV brand, had previously launched its first model, the SL03, on July 25th, positioning it as a competitor to the Tesla Model 3. Following the success of the SL03, Deepal introduced the S07 SUV as its next-generation global strategic model. The company has experienced significant growth, with 22,709 vehicles delivered in September, marking a 30.74% year-on-year increase and a 12.81% rise from August. In the first nine months of the year, Deepal delivered a total of 143,419 vehicles, reflecting a 65.03% year-on-year growth.
The launch of the S05 further solidifies Deepal’s position in the NEV market, offering customers a diverse range of electric vehicle options to choose from.
