Changan Automobile has recently made a significant delivery of 1,000 Oshan 520 sedans, showcasing CATL’s innovative battery swap technology in the mobility market. This marks a milestone for CATL in the battery swap segment, as the vehicles are built on CATL’s Choco-SEB battery swap solution.
The delivery ceremony took place in Chongqing, southwestern China, where the vehicles will be used as cabs. The event also included the signing of an agreement for an additional 15,000 units of the Oshan 520 model. This reflects the growing adoption of Choco-SEB’s standardized battery swap models in the market and highlights the recognition of Choco-SEB as a reliable solution.
CATL has already established 34 Choco-SEB battery swap stations in Chongqing, with plans to increase the number to over 50 by the end of the year. The company aims to have a total of 1,000 battery swap stations in 31 cities by the end of 2025, further expanding its presence in the market.
The Oshan 520 electric sedan from Changan was first introduced in a regulatory filing catalog in October 2024. It was revealed to be a battery swap-enabled model, sparking speculation about the technology behind it. In November 2024, Changan and CATL officially announced a partnership for a battery swap cooperation program, unveiling the battery swap-enabled Oshan 520 sedan.
The Oshan 520 is powered by CATL’s Choco-SEB battery swap solution, allowing owners to save significant time on charging. With the ability to get a fully charged battery pack with a range of 500 kilometers in less than two minutes, the Oshan 520 offers a convenient and efficient solution for shared mobility operators.
In other news, Nio has also partnered with CATL to establish the world’s largest battery swap service network. Additionally, Firefly’s newly developed models will utilize CATL’s Choco-Swap technology standard, further emphasizing the industry’s shift towards innovative battery swap solutions.
Overall, the delivery of the Oshan 520 sedans underscores the growing importance of battery swap technology in the mobility sector, with CATL at the forefront of innovation in this space. As the market continues to evolve, partnerships and collaborations between automakers and battery manufacturers will play a crucial role in shaping the future of electric mobility.
