Chery Automobile has recently expanded its overseas production by launching the assembly of its popular Tiggo Cross compact SUV in Malaysia. The Chinese automaker, which is state-owned, introduced the model to the Malaysian market in July, specifically targeting middle-income consumers.
The Tiggo Cross is now being manufactured at Sime Motors’ Inokom plant located in Kulim, Kedah state, alongside the Tiggo 8 and Omoda 5 models. In addition to the Tiggo Cross, Chery also introduced its Jaecoo J8 flagship SUV in Malaysia in July, which is being assembled at the company’s own plant in Shah Alam.
Available as a 1.5L hybrid model, the Tiggo Cross boasts a remarkable range of up to 1,000 km on a full tank and fully charged battery. The starting price for this model is MYR 99,800 (US$ 23,600). Alternatively, customers can opt for the turbo-charged 1.5L petrol model, starting at MYR 88,000 (US$ 20,800).
Michael Chew, Vice President of Chery Malaysia, expressed his excitement about the Tiggo Cross, stating, “The Tiggo Cross is our smallest and most affordable SUV yet – a modern crossover that speaks to a new generation of drivers who want efficiency, style, and smart technology in one exciting package. We are proud to assemble it right here in Malaysia, leveraging local capabilities and strategic partnerships that ensure we deliver global quality with local relevance.”
In conclusion, Chery’s decision to assemble the Tiggo Cross in Malaysia signifies its commitment to expanding its global footprint and catering to the diverse needs of consumers in different markets. The company’s focus on efficiency, style, and advanced technology in their vehicles positions them as a competitive player in the automotive industry.
