Chery, a prominent Chinese automaker, is on the verge of reaching a significant milestone in its history. The company is set to hit 5 million car exports later this month, making it the first Chinese automaker to achieve this remarkable feat. This announcement was made at the Hong Kong auto show, where Chery revealed that it had exported around 440,000 vehicles from January to May, solidifying its position as China’s top automaker in terms of exports.

For 22 consecutive years, Chery has been the leading exporter of Chinese-brand passenger vehicles. The company has a strong global presence, with operations in nearly 120 countries and regions. In May alone, Chery exported 100,737 vehicles, marking the second month this year with exports surpassing 100,000 units. From January to May, Chery exported a total of 443,940 vehicles, showing a year-on-year increase of 1.99 percent.

At the Hong Kong auto show, Chery showcased a diverse range of models across its brands, including Chery, Exeed, Jetour, iCAR, Luxeed, Omoda & Jaecoo, and Jetour Global. These models encompass various types of electric vehicles, catering to both family and off-road scenarios.

In a strategic move, Chery is gearing up to launch its all-electric models Omoda 5 and Jaecoo 6, along with the hybrid model Jaecoo 7, in the Hong Kong market. This expansion is part of Chery’s broader efforts to strengthen its presence in the global automotive market.

In 2024, Chery achieved record-breaking sales figures, selling 2,603,916 vehicles and surpassing RMB 480 billion ($67 billion) in annual revenue for the first time. The company’s new energy vehicle (NEV) sales witnessed a significant surge, reaching 583,569 units in 2024, marking a 232.7 percent year-on-year increase. Additionally, Chery exported 1,144,588 vehicles in 2024, reflecting a 21.4 percent increase compared to the previous year.
