Chinese Short-Video App Douyin Launches In-App Ride-Hailing Service
Beijing (Gasgoo)- On January 24, Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, made a significant move by officially introducing its ride-hailing service within the app. Users can access this feature through the “My Wallet” section of Douyin, with “Gaode Taxi” (powered by AutoNavi) being the first provider available. However, a notice stating “more brands coming soon” hints at the possibility of additional mobility providers joining the platform in the future.

The ride-hailing feature on Douyin is similar to that of WeChat, which aggregates multiple service providers. While WeChat predominantly promotes DiDi, it also incorporates other brands like T3 Go and DiDi’s subsidiary, Huaxiaozhu. These platforms offer various services such as carpooling, designated driving, and freight delivery.

Douyin’s competitive edge lies in its extensive user base and popularity among the younger demographic. With over 600 million daily active users as of September 2024, Douyin plans to leverage its interactive platform to establish a presence in China’s competitive mobility market, which includes established players like AutoNavi, Meituan, and DiDi.
