Confidence in cybersecurity holds in face of retail attacks

The recent surge in cyberattacks on retailers has brought the importance of cybersecurity to the forefront of discussions in the business world. Despite these challenges, a recent survey conducted by GlobalData has revealed that businesses remain overwhelmingly confident in the value of cybersecurity.

The Tech Sentiment Polls Q2 2025 survey, carried out between April and June across GlobalData’s network of B2B news websites, found that 85% of respondents believe that cybersecurity will either live up to all of its promises or that there is some use for it. Additionally, 69% of respondents suggested that cybersecurity would significantly or at least slightly disrupt their industries.

Interestingly, nearly two-thirds (60%) of respondents reported that cybersecurity is already disrupting their industries, with an additional 18% believing that it will do so in the next decade. This indicates a growing recognition of the impact that cybersecurity can have on businesses across various sectors.

The survey was conducted during a period when several retailers in the UK and elsewhere were facing cyberattacks. Brands such as Marks & Spencer, Co-op, and Harrods were among those targeted, highlighting the vulnerabilities that exist in the retail sector.

GlobalData emphasized the ubiquity of cybersecurity across all industries, with 68% of respondents acknowledging that cybersecurity is already disrupting their industry or will do so in the coming months. The report also noted a slight decrease in the percentage of respondents who claimed to fully understand cybersecurity, indicating the increasing complexity of cyber threats.

Despite the challenges posed by cyberattacks, the survey revealed that artificial intelligence remains the technology that respondents believe will be the most disruptive. This underscores the importance of investing in cybersecurity measures to protect businesses from evolving threats in the digital landscape.

Overall, the survey results reflect a growing awareness of the critical role that cybersecurity plays in safeguarding businesses against cyber threats. As cyberattacks continue to evolve, businesses must prioritize cybersecurity measures to protect their operations and maintain the trust of their customers.
