The 634bhp hybrid Corvette E-Ray launches in the UK for £153,440
The highly anticipated hybrid Corvette E-Ray has officially been launched in the UK, marking the latest phase of General Motors’ strategic plan to revitalize its presence in the country. Priced at £153,440, this powerhouse of a vehicle is set to make waves in the automotive industry.
Unlike its predecessors, the Stingray and Z06 models, the right-hand-drive E-Rays will be available at a wider range of dealerships across the UK. The initial dealerships offering the E-Ray include Arnold Clark franchises in Manchester and Glasgow, Lumen Automotive in Shrewsbury, and the Cambria Group in Birmingham, with plans to expand to more locations in the near future.
This move not only sets the stage for the upcoming relaunch of Cadillac in the UK but also lays the groundwork for the introduction of other right-hand-drive Corvette variants or mainstream Chevrolet models like the Equinox and Blazer EVs. General Motors is positioning itself for a significant presence in the UK market.
As the flagship model for GM in the UK, the E-Ray boasts a powerful 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine paired with a front-mounted electric motor. With 475bhp sent to the rear wheels from the mid-mounted engine and an additional 159bhp from the e-motor powering the front axle, the E-Ray delivers an impressive combined output of 634bhp and features four-wheel drive capabilities.
Acceleration is a highlight of the E-Ray, with a 0-62mph time of just 2.9 seconds, putting it on par with high-end sports cars like the Ferrari 296 GTB and Maserati MC20. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with a 1.9kWh battery pack situated between the front seats, allowing for electric-only driving at speeds up to 44mph for a distance of up to four miles.
Even when the battery is depleted, the E-Ray remains a performance powerhouse, capable of reaching 62mph in an impressive 3.4 seconds. The hybrid also features top-of-the-line components such as Brembo carbon-ceramic brake discs and magnetorheological dampers as standard, enhancing both performance and handling.
With a wider stance than the Stingray and a host of cutting-edge features, the Corvette E-Ray is set to make a lasting impression on the UK automotive market. Stay tuned for more updates on General Motors’ plans for expansion and innovation in the region.
