Could PHEV sales continue after 2035 in the EU?

The automotive industry is constantly evolving, with new developments and challenges emerging regularly. Let’s take a closer look at some of the latest news and trends shaping the industry.

One of the key topics of discussion is the future of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) beyond 2035. While there have been talks about phasing out traditional combustion engines, negotiations in Brussels have not yet ruled out the sales of PHEVs after 2035. The European Commission is engaged in a strategic dialogue with the automotive sector to address the challenges facing the industry and ensure a smooth transition towards zero-emission mobility.

In other news, merger talks between Nissan and Honda have hit a roadblock, with reports suggesting that the negotiations have come to an end. This development has led Nissan to explore other potential partnerships, possibly with technology companies like Foxconn. Meanwhile, carmakers like Volkswagen, Ferrari, and Aston Martin are making significant strides in electrification, with plans to introduce new electric models in the coming years.

However, the sentiment in Germany’s automotive industry has dipped to a new low, with concerns about competitiveness looming large. Despite a 2.8% decline in new-car registrations in January, there has been a significant increase in the adoption of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the country. Poland, on the other hand, has launched a new subsidy program to incentivize the purchase of electric vehicles, with a focus on supporting new electric passenger cars.

On the technology front, Stellantis is strengthening its collaboration with artificial intelligence company mistral AI to develop an in-car assistant that provides real-time support to drivers. Additionally, France is experimenting with inductive charging technology on a motorway near Paris, aiming to test the feasibility of wirelessly charging vehicles on the go.
