Cupra Born VZ review

The Cupra Born has been receiving rave reviews for its adult-friendly passenger space in a compact package. Its sibling, the Volkswagen ID 3, also offers great space but the Born goes the extra mile with its inviting cabin ambience and material quality. The Born VZ model maintains this high standard in the driving environment, with new sports seats from Sabelt adding a touch of luxury. These seats are made from a mix of sustainable Seaqual fiber and recycled Dinamica suede, making them lighter than the standard seats and offering a supposedly lower driving position.

While the lower driving position wasn’t immediately noticeable to testers, the comfort and support provided by the driver’s seat were top-notch. The Born VZ also features a new 12.9-inch multimedia display and paddle shifters for brake energy regeneration, enhancing the driving experience. A ‘Smart Light’ LED strip at the base of the windscreen helps indicate direction and highlight potential hazards, although some may find it unnecessary.

The multimedia system in the Born VZ comes with a 12.9-inch touchscreen display, offering a larger screen size than previous models. While it doesn’t dominate the dashboard like some other installations, it does bring improvements in usability. However, there were some reliability issues reported during testing, with the display crashing at one point and requiring a reset.

Cupra has not fully embraced physical controls for HVAC and multimedia systems, unlike some other brands in the VW Group. The infotainment system remains easy to navigate, although a physical cursor controller would be a welcome addition. The Born also features a large color head-up display with augmented reality technology, providing navigation prompts in your line of sight for a more immersive driving experience.

Overall, the Cupra Born VZ offers a comfortable and luxurious driving environment with advanced technology features. While there were some minor issues with the multimedia system, the overall experience is impressive. With its stylish design and thoughtful details, the Cupra Born VZ is a standout choice in the compact car segment.
