Denza working on electric sports car, spy photos show

Denza, a premium new energy vehicle (NEV) brand under BYD’s umbrella, is reportedly gearing up to launch an electric sports car to expand its product lineup. Recent spy shots shared by various Chinese automotive media outlets, including Auto Home, depict what is believed to be Denza’s upcoming electric sports car, featuring the signature blue camouflage often seen on Denza’s previous models.

This two-door, four-seat sports car was initially conceived as Fang Cheng Bao’s Super 9 concept but has now been rebranded under the Denza marque. Expected to come in both hardtop and convertible versions, the electric sports car is set to make its official debut at the upcoming Shanghai auto show, commencing on April 25.

Priced at over RMB 300,000 yuan ($40,920), the performance of this model is said to rival that of the Porsche 911. Fang Cheng Bao, the sister brand of Denza and a personalized sub-brand of BYD, unveiled the Super 9 concept on April 16, 2024, alongside other models like the Bao 8 SUV and the Super 3 SUV at a spring launch event. The Super 9 concept, showcased at the 2024 Beijing auto show a few days later, is described as a professional sports car in the Speedster category, combining speed and artistry with its space-cockpit design.

While BYD’s current sports car offering is limited to the U9 from the ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang, priced at RMB 1.68 million ($230,000), the introduction of Denza’s electric sports car could appeal to a broader audience seeking a more affordable yet high-performance option.

The emergence of these spy shots coincides with reports of Denza’s ambitious sales targets for 2025. As per AutoPix, Denza aims to sell over 300,000 units in 2025, marking a substantial growth of 138% compared to its 2024 sales figures. This drive towards increased sales aligns with Denza’s positioning as a key player in the NEV market, offering a diverse range of electric vehicles to cater to evolving consumer preferences.

With the impending launch of the electric sports car and a strategic focus on expanding its market presence, Denza is poised to make significant strides in the competitive automotive landscape, driving innovation and sustainability in the realm of electric mobility.
