Dongfeng Honda, a joint venture between Honda and Dongfeng Motor, is set to launch the new Honda S7 SUV on March 6, offering customers the choice between two smart driving solutions. According to a report by local media outlet Yiche, the S7 will come equipped with Honda Sensing 360+ as well as Huawei’s smart driving solution.
The S7 will also feature Honda’s light field screen, developed in collaboration with Huawei. This technology is similar to an AR-HUD, providing a large-format, long-range viewing experience in a small space.
In April 2024, Honda introduced a new EV brand called Ye in China. However, the brand is no longer being mentioned in the current marketing of the company. The Ye brand was designed to cater to the needs of Chinese customers and was based on the all-electric Architecture W architecture.
Three models were unveiled under the Ye brand – Ye P7, Ye S7, and Ye GT. While the Ye P7 and Ye S7 were scheduled for release by the end of 2024, the Ye GT was set for production in 2025. Despite the announcement, the Ye P7 and Ye S7 have yet to be officially launched.
Reports emerged in January 2025 suggesting that Honda was exploring collaboration with Huawei in the smart driving field, with plans to incorporate Huawei’s solution into the Ye brand. However, recent marketing materials from Dongfeng Honda and GAC Honda have shifted away from using the Ye brand, opting instead for direct references to the P7 and S7 models.
The Honda S7 boasts dimensions of 4,750 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,625 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,930 mm. It is powered by dual motors with maximum power outputs of 150 kW and 200 kW, along with a lithium ternary battery manufactured by CATL.
The decision to move away from the Ye brand may have been influenced by negative feedback, as the Chinese character for Ye was perceived as unlucky. Despite this, the launch of the Honda S7 with advanced smart driving solutions signifies the brand’s commitment to innovation and technology in the Chinese market.
