BMW Unveils Next-Generation 3 Series with Focus on Aerodynamics and Range
BMW has recently announced the upcoming release of the next-generation 3 Series, featuring a more stringent focus on aerodynamics to enhance efficiency. The new model will also come equipped with more efficient motors and a revamped software stack, promising to increase range by up to 30%.
Similar to the current BMW 4 Series and 5 Series, the next-generation 3 Series will be available in both pure-electric and internal-combustion powertrains. BMW is committed to offering a flexible range of powertrain options as it transitions towards an all-electric lineup in the future.
While BMW has not yet set a specific date for ending sales of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, it is on track to sell only electric vehicles in the UK and Europe by 2035. The company is actively working to ensure compliance with upcoming emissions regulations for its current engines.
The current G20-generation 3 Series offers a choice of 2.0-litre four-cylinder and 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engines, as well as a plug-in hybrid variant with an electric range of 63 miles. Earlier this year, BMW discontinued all diesel engine options in an update to the model.
While the Neue Klasse concept and recent prototype have focused on the saloon variant of the 3 Series, it is expected that the popular 3 Series Touring estate model will also make a return. This variant will compete with electric offerings from Mercedes and Audi in the estate segment.
