Farasis Energy, a prominent Chinese power battery maker, has introduced cutting-edge battery technology that supports 6C ultra-fast charging, in response to the increasing demand from automakers for higher charging speeds.

At a recent forum in Shanghai, Jiang Weiran, Farasis’ vice president of research and development and president of its R&D institute, revealed that the company has enhanced its battery design through the development of an in-house simulation ROM model. This optimization has enabled large pouch-style batteries to achieve 6C fast charging at the system level, according to details shared in the presentation.

The term “C” refers to the battery’s charging multiplier, with 6C indicating that the battery can theoretically be fully charged in just 10 minutes. Farasis’ innovative solution includes a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery system supporting 6C ultra-fast charging, as well as a lithium ternary battery system supporting 5C ultra-fast charging.

The company’s SPS (super pouch solution) structural design plays a crucial role in enhancing the heat dissipation area, with a significant improvement seen on 6C LFP batteries by up to 4.8 times. This design effectively addresses the heat dissipation challenges faced during high-rate fast charging, ensuring optimal performance.

By utilizing the ROM and fast-charging optimization models, Farasis has been able to control fast-charging temperatures within 50°C for both the 5C Li-ion ternary battery and the 6C LFP battery systems. This has led to a notable reduction in charging times, with the 6C LFP battery charging from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 8.55 minutes under ultra-fast charging conditions.

Farasis’ ROM model has revolutionized battery design boundaries by streamlining one-factor conditions to obtain core parameters. This has significantly enhanced battery development and design efficiency, with pack fast-charging simulations now taking only 10 seconds to complete, a vast improvement over traditional commercial software that requires 8-10 hours.

Overall, Farasis’ innovative battery technology represents a significant advancement in the field of power batteries, offering automakers a compelling solution for achieving rapid and efficient charging. As one of China’s leading power battery makers, Farasis continues to drive innovation and excellence in the electric vehicle industry.
