FAW Group to Establish Flying Car Headquarters in Shenzhen’s Dapeng New Area

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- In a recent development, Shenzhen’s Dapeng New Area has signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with the Industry and Information Technology Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, the New Energy Vehicle Industry Office, the Shenzhen Municipal Transport Bureau, and China’s FAW Group. The aim is to drive innovation and development in the flying car industry, as announced in a press release on June 16 via the WeChat account “iDapeng.”

The signing of this agreement marks the official establishment of FAW Group’s flying car headquarters project in Dapeng New Area, Shenzhen city.

The agreement outlines a comprehensive collaboration between the four parties in key areas such as flying vehicle research and development, manufacturing, and market expansion. The focus will be on technological advancements, application scenarios, ecosystem development, policy innovation, and scalable production. The ultimate goal is to accelerate the high-quality growth of Shenzhen’s flying car industry, positioning the city as a frontrunner in the emerging low-altitude economy and future three-dimensional mobility.

As part of the partnership, FAW Group will establish a new subsidiary, FAW Qiyi (Shenzhen) Technology Co., Ltd., in Dapeng New Area. This subsidiary will be responsible for flying car development, production, testing, and operations. The company aims to set up the global headquarters of FAW Group’s flying car subsidiary in Shenzhen, expanding its footprint in R&D, manufacturing, and operational services.

FAW Group has already made significant progress in the flying car sector with the development of the Hongqi TianNian No. 1 flying car. This model was showcased at several prestigious events, including AUTO SHANGHAI 2025, the 2025 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Auto Show, and the 2025 International Automobile & Supply Chain Expo (Hong Kong).

The Hongqi TianNian No. 1 boasts a modular design with a flying range of over 200 kilometers. It supports vertical takeoff and landing in designated zones, catering to high-end applications such as intercity travel, tourism, specialized operations, and executive transport. The maiden flight of this innovative vehicle is scheduled for later this year.

FAW Group plans to leverage its automotive manufacturing expertise, supply chain integration, and the renowned Hongqi brand to drive innovation in the flying car industry. The company aims to combine knowledge from the automotive and aviation sectors to focus on independent advancements in core technologies like vehicle architecture, propulsion systems, flight control, avionics, and airworthiness safety. Additionally, FAW Group will explore digital solutions to further develop the flying car industry.
