Ferrari 296, Roma and SF90 due 2025 overhaul ahead of debut EV

The latest prototypes from Ferrari have been causing quite a stir, with the use of old Maserati Levante bodies hinting at a potential higher-riding model in the vein of the Purosangue, Ferrari’s upcoming SUV. This new model is likely to feature electrification, as the placement of batteries beneath the vehicle necessitates increased ground clearance typically found in SUVs.

While the traditional ‘skateboard’ design may not be utilized, Ferrari could opt to centralize the mass around the front or rear axle, maintaining a weight distribution similar to their current front- and mid-engined models. CEO Benedetto Vigna has emphasized the brand’s commitment to ensuring that driving remains a thrilling experience, even with the shift towards electric vehicles.

In terms of performance, the Ferrari 296 is set to receive a more hardcore variant that builds on the success of its predecessor, which received a glowing five-star rating from Autocar. Drawing inspiration from past models like the 488 Pista and 458 Speciale, the enhanced 296 is expected to boast increased power and reduced weight for improved acceleration.

The 458 Speciale, for example, saw a significant bump in horsepower and a substantial weight reduction compared to the base Italia model, resulting in a notable improvement in power-to-weight ratio. Similarly, the new 296 is poised to offer around 630bhp per tonne, a significant upgrade from the current model’s 557bhp per tonne.

Recent sightings of camouflaged prototypes near Ferrari’s headquarters suggest that the more aggressive 296 will feature aerodynamic enhancements such as a prominent rear spoiler and a more pronounced front splitter. These modifications are intended to enhance performance and handling capabilities, further solidifying Ferrari’s reputation for producing high-performance vehicles.

Meanwhile, the Ferrari SF90 is rumored to receive a power boost that could potentially exceed 1000bhp. With its sleek design and cutting-edge technology, the SF90 is expected to push the boundaries of performance and innovation in the supercar segment.

As Ferrari continues to push the envelope in terms of performance and design, enthusiasts can look forward to a new era of electrified models that promise to deliver the exhilarating driving experience that the brand is renowned for. Stay tuned for more updates on these exciting developments from the iconic Italian automaker.
