Ferrari is set to make a groundbreaking move by introducing its first fully electric car in October this year. This marks a significant shift for the luxury sports car brand, renowned for its high-performance petrol engines. According to a report by Reuters, Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna announced that the company will unveil its inaugural electric vehicle during a capital markets day scheduled for 9th October at its headquarters in Maranello, Italy.
Despite potential risks posed by US policies or trade wars, Ferrari remains steadfast in its plans to launch six new models this year, with the electric car being a key highlight. The company’s foray into electrification began in 2019 with the introduction of hybrid models, which accounted for over half of its sales in the previous year.
In terms of financial projections, Ferrari anticipates a growth in EBITDA from €2.56 billion in 2024 to at least €2.68 billion in 2025. Customization remains a significant aspect of Ferrari’s appeal, with buyers often opting for personalized features such as unique paint, livery, and carbon elements, contributing to around 20% of total revenue in recent years.
While the US market has seen an uptick in deliveries, Ferrari has no immediate plans to accelerate shipments in anticipation of potential tariffs. The company also maintains a 10% cap on deliveries to China, where electric vehicles enjoy popularity and tax benefits over traditional petrol cars.
Last year, Ferrari inaugurated a new factory in Maranello, Italy, dedicated to the production of electric supercars alongside internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid models. The facility is equipped to manufacture key electrical components like high-voltage batteries, electric motors, and axles, reflecting Ferrari’s commitment to embracing the future of automotive technology.
As Ferrari continues to innovate and adapt to the evolving automotive landscape, the launch of its first fully electric car signifies a bold step towards sustainability and performance excellence in the luxury sports car segment.
