FocalPoint, a UK-based software company known for its next-generation positioning solutions, has recently joined forces with STMicroelectronics, a leading semiconductor company catering to various electronics applications. This collaboration is aimed at providing an advanced Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) solution for automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), with a focus on enhancing navigation performance by improving GNSS reliability and accuracy.

In this partnership, FocalPoint will integrate its S-GNSS Auto software, powered by Supercorrelation technology, onto ST’s Teseo devices. The CEO of FocalPoint, Scott Pomerantz, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating that the combination of FocalPoint’s S-GNSS Auto and ST’s Teseo chips offers a powerful solution for automotive OEMs looking to advance their Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The Teseo devices are known for their high performance and support for multiple satellite constellations. By combining FocalPoint’s S-GNSS Auto software with ST’s Teseo receivers, the solution is expected to provide superior reliability and accuracy, surpassing other options available in the market.

GNSS plays a crucial role in ADAS by providing essential location data. However, its accuracy can be compromised in challenging environments such as urban canyons and forested roads due to signal interference. S-GNSS Auto addresses these challenges by transforming GNSS into a reliable and high-performance sensor, enabling automakers to extend the operational range of hands-free driving beyond open-sky roads.

The integration of FocalPoint’s S-GNSS Auto software onto ST’s Teseo receivers is a significant step forward in enhancing GNSS technology for the automotive sector. This aligns with the industry’s efforts to develop more advanced and reliable navigation systems. Luca Celant, the General Manager of STMicroelectronics’ digital audio and signal solutions division, highlighted that this collaboration sets a new standard for navigation accuracy and reliability, enabling OEMs to advance automation confidently.
