The UK’s Biggest Van Seller Ford Falls Behind on EV Sales Targets
The latest figures reveal that Ford, the UK’s largest van seller, is struggling to meet tough government-mandated electric vehicle (EV) sales targets compared to its competitors. According to data from EV think tank NewAutoMotive, Ford has only sold 2443 electric light commercial vehicles (LCVs) so far this year, accounting for just 5.4% of its total 45,190 LCV sales. This falls significantly short of the 16% required by the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate.
In contrast, Volkswagen, the nation’s second biggest van seller, is outperforming Ford with a 19% EV sales rate. This impressive figure can be largely attributed to the success of the commercial version of the ID Buzz, Volkswagen’s electric van model.
As the automotive industry continues to shift towards cleaner and more sustainable transportation options, it is crucial for major players like Ford to ramp up their efforts in the EV market. Failure to meet government-mandated targets could have significant consequences for Ford’s market share and reputation in the long run.
With Volkswagen leading the charge in EV sales, Ford must reevaluate its strategy and prioritize the development and promotion of electric van models to stay competitive in the evolving automotive landscape. Time will tell whether Ford can catch up to its rivals and secure a stronger foothold in the growing EV market.
