Honda has officially unveiled the new Honda Prelude hybrid sports coupé, showcasing its interior design and features. Drawing inspiration from the popular Civic hatchback, the Prelude incorporates a 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, digital instrument display, and climate control switchgear.
One of the key highlights of the Prelude is its sportier positioning, evident in the rally-style stitched line on the steering wheel and the bucket seats with increased bolstering for the driver. A unique feature of the Prelude is the S+ button on the center console, which activates the simulated gearbox. This feature enhances the driving experience by simulating the sound and feel of quick automatic gear changes, utilizing the same 181bhp 2.0-liter e:HEV hybrid system as the Civic.
The e:HEV hybrid system primarily relies on an electric motor to power the wheels, with the petrol engine acting as a generator to charge the battery. This innovative system eliminates the need for traditional gearing, providing a seamless and efficient driving experience. The new S+ Shift system further enhances performance by maintaining optimal engine RPM for different driving conditions and fully utilizing power generated by the engine as driving force.
Hans De Jaeger, Honda Europe’s senior vice-president, emphasized that the Prelude not only delivers exceptional efficiency but also offers the fun-to-drive performance that the model is renowned for. The integration of advanced technology and driving dynamics ensures that the Prelude continues to uphold its reputation as a thrilling sports coupé.
