Mercedes Benz is set to revolutionize its design language by unifying the look of its combustion-engine cars and electric vehicles. This move is inspired by BMW’s successful approach and aims to create a cohesive design across the entire Mercedes lineup. The luxury brand promises that this new direction will not compromise on space, elegance, convenience, or efficiency.
The shift towards a unified design language was hinted at with the introduction of the CLA electric concept, which will also have versions with combustion engines. Existing models like the GLA/EQA and GLB/EQB already share a similar platform, showcasing the potential for closer ties between ICE and EV models in the future.
Mercedes hopes that this new styling direction will help boost demand for its electric vehicles, following a 23% drop in zero-emission vehicle deliveries last year. The company aims to catch up to competitors like BMW, which saw an increase in EV sales. To achieve this, Mercedes plans to launch dozens of new or refreshed models by 2027, including a string of EVs.
One of the highly anticipated models is a purely electric version of the next-generation S-Class, expected to arrive later in the decade. In the meantime, the current S-Class will receive a major update in 2026. Other upcoming models include a wagon version of the CLA, a baby G-Class, and replacements for the EQA and EQB. The C-Class and GLC EVs are also on the horizon, set to debut within the next couple of years.
With a focus on innovation and sustainability, Mercedes Benz is poised to lead the luxury electric vehicle market with its upcoming lineup of electrified models. Stay tuned for more updates on the brand’s exciting developments in the world of electric mobility.
