GAC Group has recently inaugurated its state-of-the-art smart factory in Jakarta, Indonesia, marking a significant step in the company’s expansion in Southeast Asia. The facility, built with a focus on green principles and intelligent manufacturing, is a key component of GAC’s One GAC 2.0 globalization strategy in the Indonesian market.
The new factory, described as a modern “lighthouse factory,” embodies GAC’s commitment to local production for the Indonesian market. Operating under a “small-scale, fast-output, phased development” model, the facility boasts an advanced new energy manufacturing system with 100% digital interconnectivity. This setup not only enhances operational efficiency but also ensures high product quality. With smart manufacturing and AI-enabled visual inspection technology, GAC Group aims to deliver top-notch products through technological innovation.
As part of the launch event, GAC Group introduced its “Indonesia Action Plan” under the One GAC 2.0 strategy, outlining a comprehensive localization framework across various key areas including products, channels, services, smart manufacturing, energy infrastructure, and mobility ecosystems.
In terms of products, GAC will focus on introducing battery electric vehicles (BEVs) initially, with plans to gradually introduce plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) models. The company will also expand its portfolio to include seven-seater models to cater to larger families.
In terms of distribution channels, GAC is working on a three-tier network model called the “Sun, Moon, and Stars,” with the aim of covering more than 60 key cities in Indonesia by 2025. This approach is intended to provide customers with a more efficient and accessible vehicle purchasing experience.
GAC’s localized service platform, “GACARE,” offers industry-first lifetime warranties for core electric components and extended vehicle warranties. The platform also features a 24/7 digital service network, positioning GAC as a leader in overseas aftersales service.
The smart factory in Indonesia is designed to meet GAC’s lighthouse factory standards, focusing on intelligent, high-speed, localized production. The facility will have an initial annual capacity of 20,000 vehicles, with plans to scale up to 50,000 units.
GAC’s energy ecosystem plan includes a three-tiered new energy vehicle (NEV) charging infrastructure, offering solutions ranging from home chargers to ultra-fast networks to address range anxiety. Additionally, GAC will collaborate with leading ride-hailing and fleet platforms in Indonesia to introduce tailored models and expand green mobility fleets in the country.
Key highlights of the smart factory include flexible production lines that can switch between different model types in just 30 minutes, end-to-end quality control systems with smart fluid filling and real-time monitoring, and dual battery safety mechanisms for enhanced safety during charging scenarios.
Overall, GAC’s smart factory in Indonesia represents a significant investment in the local market and underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing and innovative technologies.
