Chinese state-owned automaker GAC Group has recently announced a partnership with local technology giant Huawei Technologies to collaborate on creating a new battery electric vehicle (BEV) brand. This joint venture aims to capitalize on the increasing demand for smart connected BEVs in China, the world’s largest vehicle market, and beyond.
The collaboration builds upon the existing BEV partnership between GAC and Huawei, which commenced in 2021 with the development of a smart battery-powered SUV. By combining GAC’s expertise in vehicle manufacturing with Huawei’s cutting-edge information and communication technologies, the two companies plan to work together on product development, sales and marketing, as well as establishing an aftermarket ecosystem. The specific details regarding the new brand’s name and launch date have not been disclosed yet.
GAC already operates an EV unit, GAC Aion, which has successfully expanded into international markets over the past couple of years. With this new collaboration, GAC will become the fifth Chinese automaker to establish a new BEV brand in partnership with Huawei, joining the ranks of JAC, BAIC, Chery, and Seres.
In a statement, GAC expressed their vision for the partnership, stating, “As the automotive industry shifts toward electrification and digitalization, the partnership aims to leverage the strengths of both companies to create new milestones in the intelligent vehicle sector.”
This collaboration between GAC and Huawei signifies a significant step towards advancing the development and adoption of smart connected BEVs in the global automotive market. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting partnership and the launch of the new BEV brand.
