GAC Group has recently announced a new partnership with Huawei to create a premium smart new energy vehicle (NEV) brand. This collaboration marks the latest effort by a local automaker to deepen ties with the tech giant.

The partnership agreement was signed on November 30, 2024, in Guangzhou, where GAC is based. As part of this agreement, GAC will introduce a new premium brand alongside its existing Trumpchi, Aion, and Hyptec brands.

With 27 years of experience in vehicle manufacturing, GAC brings expertise in building vehicles to the table. On the other hand, Huawei, a leader in information and communication technology, will contribute its intelligence technologies to the partnership.

The goal of this collaboration is to create cutting-edge intelligent experiences for users. By leveraging their respective strengths, GAC and Huawei aim to enhance product development, marketing, and ecological services for the new NEV brand.

The signing ceremony was attended by key executives from both companies, including GAC chairman Zeng Qinghong, general manager Feng Xingya, Huawei’s rotating chairman Eric Xu, and intelligent vehicle solutions business unit CEO Jin Yuzhi.

This partnership falls under Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) model, where the tech giant collaborates with car companies to launch new brands and build cars. Huawei’s current partners under the HIMA business include Seres, Chery, BAIC Group, and JAC.

For GAC, this collaboration with Huawei is not new. In May 2021, the company announced plans to co-develop L4 self-driving cars with Huawei for mass production in 2024. Additionally, Aion, a subsidiary of GAC, partnered with Huawei in 2021 to create a luxury premium brand.

Despite a change in plans regarding the development of the AH8 SUV, Huawei remains a key supplier for GAC’s own-branded models. Moving forward, the collaboration between GAC and Huawei is expected to drive innovation and advancements in the NEV industry.

Overall, this partnership between GAC and Huawei signifies a strategic move towards creating a new premium smart NEV brand that combines the best of automotive and technology expertise. With a focus on intelligent experiences and cutting-edge technologies, the future looks promising for this new collaboration.
