GAC signs BEV distribution deal in the UK

Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) has recently announced a significant agreement with Jameel Motors for the distribution of its battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the UK. This move is part of GAC’s global expansion strategy as a Chinese state-owned automaker. The company is the fourth Chinese automaker to enter the UK market this month, following in the footsteps of Changan Automobile, Chery Automobile, and the Geely brand. The UK, being Europe’s second-largest BEV market after Germany, presents a lucrative opportunity for GAC to establish its presence.

With one in four cars sold in the UK being powered by batteries, the government has introduced new incentives to accelerate the transition to zero-emission vehicles. These incentives include sales subsidies of up to GBP 3,750 per vehicle. Unlike the European Union, the UK has not imposed import tariffs on Chinese-made BEVs, making it an attractive market for GAC.

GAC will initially focus on introducing its Aion BEV brand in the UK, with plans to start deliveries of the Aion V SUV and Aion UT hatchback in early 2026. GAC International president, Wayne Wei, expressed the company’s commitment to providing industry-leading products and top-notch services to UK consumers. This strategic move aligns with GAC’s internationalization strategy, as the company has already established a presence in South-east Asia, the Middle East, and has plans to expand into Portugal, Poland, and Brazil.

In light of these developments, GAC’s entry into the UK market marks a significant milestone for the company’s global reach. By tapping into the UK’s growing demand for BEVs and leveraging the government’s incentives, GAC aims to carve out a successful niche for its electric vehicles in the competitive UK automotive market. Stay tuned for more updates on GAC’s expansion and the latest developments in the electric vehicle industry.
