GAC Group has recently introduced its latest innovation, the humanoid robot known as GoMate, at an event in Shanghai. This cutting-edge robot is the third generation of GAC’s in-house developed embodied artificial intelligence robot.

During the event, GoMate showcased its impressive capabilities in motion control, navigation, localization, and autonomous decision-making. This full-size wheeled humanoid robot boasts 38 degrees of freedom (DoF) and can switch between quadrupedal and bipedal modes. In quadrupedal mode, GoMate stands at about 1.4 meters tall, while in bipedal mode, it can reach a height of up to 1.75 meters.

One of the key features of GoMate is its energy efficiency, reducing energy consumption by over 80 percent compared to similar products. This is achieved through its adaptable and stable design, making it suitable for complex environments. The robot is powered by GAC’s all-solid-state batteries, providing a six-hour battery life on a single charge.

GAC envisions a wide range of applications for GoMate, including security, healthcare, automotive aftermarket, logistics, and education. The robot will initially be deployed in GAC’s automotive production lines for tasks such as inspections. The company plans to pilot GoMate in various industries by 2025 and aims to commence small-scale production in 2026, with mass production to follow thereafter.

In addition to GoMate, GAC also unveiled its second-generation embodied artificial intelligence robot at a recent event in Guangzhou. This robot features a wheeled structure with vision and haptic systems, along with AI large models. With a battery life of more than six hours, this second-generation robot demonstrates GAC’s commitment to innovation in the field of robotics.

Meanwhile, BYD has shown interest in developing humanoid robots, with job advertisements seeking master’s and PhD graduates for its intelligence team. Speculation is rife that BYD is venturing into humanoid robots, following reports of the company setting up a dedicated team for developing embodied artificial intelligence products.

Similarly, Li Auto’s founder, chairman, and CEO, Li Xiang, has expressed the company’s intention to explore humanoid robots in the future. While Li Auto’s foray into humanoid robots is deemed inevitable by Li Xiang, the company is currently focusing on other priorities.

Overall, the development of humanoid robots in the automotive industry signals a new era of innovation and technological advancement. With companies like GAC, BYD, and Li Auto leading the way, we can expect to see more groundbreaking developments in the field of robotics in the coming years.
