Geely has introduced a new off-road SUV called the Geely Cowboy, which recently rolled off the assembly line in China. This rugged vehicle is designed based on the Geely Icon but comes with enhanced off-road capabilities. The Geely Cowboy is set to be officially launched later this year and is expected to be priced at less than 100,000 yuan (approximately 14,000 USD). For comparison, the Geely Icon currently on the market is priced between 96,900 and 116,900 yuan (approximately 13,600 – 16,400 USD).
In September, the Geely Icon saw a decline in sales, with only 465 units sold, marking a year-on-year decrease of 72.6% and a month-on-month decrease of 41.1%. The cumulative sales of the Geely Icon from January to September 2024 stood at 6,888 units.
The Geely Cowboy boasts a hardcore SUV exterior design, featuring rugged front styling, an external polygonal container at the rear, and an oversized equipment rack on the roof with additional spotlights, emphasizing its off-road appeal. The roof cargo area is spacious at 1.3 square meters, with a maximum load capacity of 50 kg. Consumers can choose from four exterior paint options: white, green, gray, and brown.
Measuring 4369(4442)/1860/1770 mm in length, width, and height, the Geely Cowboy is larger than the Geely Icon, while maintaining the same wheelbase of 2640 mm. The vehicle sports wide wheel eyebrows, rugged side skirts, conventional door handles, red brake calipers, and a floating roof effect. Off-road all-terrain tires are available as an option.
Under the hood, the Geely Cowboy is powered by a 1.5TD engine delivering a maximum power of 133 kW (178 hp) and a peak torque of 290 Nm, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (7DCT).
Inside the cabin, the Geely Cowboy features a handle in front of the co-pilot, ∞-shaped air-conditioning outlets, an 8.8-inch embedded full LCD instrument panel, and a 14.6-inch center control screen with a resolution of 1920×1080, powered by Ecarx’s E02 cockpit chip. The seats are upholstered in a combination of leather, denim, and suede fabrics, with the driver and co-pilot seats embossed with the Born Free logo. Other interior features include ambient lighting, a 6-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, and 42 storage spaces throughout the cabin.
Overall, the Geely Cowboy is a rugged and capable off-road SUV that combines style, performance, and comfort. It is set to offer an exciting driving experience for adventure enthusiasts.
