Geely Icon turned into a brawny SUV in China with off-road trim

Geely Icon, the small crossover from Chinese automaker Geely, is set to receive a new variant with off-road exterior trim. This new version of the Icon will feature wide wheel arches, large bumpers, and roof racks, giving it a rugged and adventurous look. However, despite its off-road appearance, the Icon is actually a front-wheel-drive crossover designed for urban commutes on Geely’s entry-level BMA architecture.

The current Geely Icon was launched in China in 2020 but has not seen the same level of success as other models in Geely’s lineup. With cumulative retail sales reaching 96,173 units in China, Geely has been consistently updating the Icon to attract more buyers. The latest update to the Icon brings a more aggressive and bold exterior design, with sizable bumpers, wide wheel arches, and gray plastic accents on the doors.

While the new Geely Icon maintains the overall design language of the previous model, the addition of off-road styling elements like roof racks and rugged bumpers gives it a more adventurous look. However, it’s important to note that the Icon is still a front-wheel-drive vehicle, so it may not live up to the expectations set by its off-road appearance. Despite this, the new Icon is likely to appeal to customers looking for a stylish and versatile crossover.

With dimensions of 4442/1860/1770 mm and a wheelbase of 2640 mm, the new Geely Icon has a larger and more imposing presence on the road. It is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 178 hp, paired with a 7DCT gearbox. While the engine delivers ample power, it is only sent to the front wheels, limiting the Icon’s off-road capabilities.

The launch date for the new Geely Icon has not been announced yet, but the vehicle has already applied for a sales license in China, indicating that it will be available for purchase soon. With its bold design and updated features, the new Geely Icon is set to attract attention in the competitive crossover market.
