Geely Holding Group has announced a strategic partnership with French carmaker Renault to accelerate its expansion in international markets, particularly in Brazil. As part of this agreement, Geely Holding will become a minority shareholder in Renault Brazil, gaining access to localized production, sales, and service resources in the country.
Renault’s two production facilities in Brazil, located at the Ayrton Senna Complex in São José dos Pinhais, Paraná, will be utilized to produce zero- and low-emission vehicles for Geely Holding and Renault. This collaboration will enable both companies to expand their product offerings and strengthen their presence in the Brazilian market, which accounts for a significant portion of Latin American vehicle sales.
On the sales side, Renault do Brasil will serve as the distributor for Geely Holding’s portfolio of zero- and low-emission vehicles in Brazil, further enhancing the reach of these environmentally-friendly models in the region.
Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the successful joint ventures between Renault and Geely in the past. He emphasized the importance of leveraging their existing trust and working relationship to drive further growth and innovation in Brazil.
Geely’s local counterpart, BYD, has already made significant strides in the Brazilian market with the launch of more than 10 new energy vehicle (NEV) models. BYD’s industrial complex in Brazil, which includes production plants for electric buses, trucks, and passenger cars, underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable transportation solutions in the region.
With Geely Holding’s investment in Renault Brazil and the collaboration between these two automotive giants, the stage is set for a new era of zero- and low-emission vehicle production and sales in Brazil. This partnership not only strengthens the position of both companies in the Brazilian market but also paves the way for continued innovation and growth in the global automotive industry.
