Genesis Delays Launch of Next-Generation G80 EV

Genesis, the luxury automaker, has announced a delay in the launch of its next-generation G80 EV. The company has decided to continue offering hybrid and gas-powered versions of the G80 until the new electric sedan is ready for release.

The Electrified G80 was quietly removed from the US website last month, signaling that it may take a few more years before the next-generation model is available. While Genesis did not make a public announcement regarding the delay, the company stated that customer needs and market conditions are at the forefront of their decision-making process.

The 2024 model year marked the end of production for the current G80, and the updated 2025 version never made it to the US market. According to reports from Korean auto blogger Motorsjason, the launch of the next-generation G80, across all powertrains, has been postponed. The new G80 EV is not expected to debut until at least 2029.

In addition to the electric model, there are rumors of an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) version of the G80 in the works, but that too is not expected to be available until the end of the decade.

As the slowest-selling vehicle in the lineup, it comes as no surprise that Genesis has decided to discontinue the G80 in the US. Instead, the company is focusing on expanding its offerings with the introduction of the GV90, a full-size ultra-luxury electric SUV. Based on the Neolun concept showcased at the New York Auto Show, the GV90 is expected to launch in mid-2026.

The GV90 will feature premium amenities such as coach doors and adaptive air suspension, setting it apart as a top-tier luxury SUV. Genesis plans to offer a range of powertrain options for the GV90, including all-electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid variants.

For now, Genesis continues to offer the all-electric GV60 and Electrified GV70 in the US market, while the 2025 Electrified G80 is still available in other regions such as Europe.

With a commitment to innovation and luxury, Genesis is poised to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market with its upcoming lineup of electric vehicles. Stay tuned for more updates on the brand’s electrified offerings.
