The Guangzhou International Auto Show 2024 kicked off on November 15 with a grand display of 1,171 vehicles, out of which 512 were new energy vehicles (NEVs). Spanning an impressive 220,000 square meters, the exhibition also saw the unveiling of 78 global debuts.

BYD, a prominent player in the NEV market, took center stage at the event, showcasing a wide array of new models across its sub-brands. The Xia MPV, featuring adjustable third-row seating, the Yangwang U7 available in EV and PHEV configurations, and the Denza Z9 equipped with advanced connectivity systems were among the highlights. BYD’s remarkable performance in October, with sales exceeding 500,000 units for the first time, underscored the growing adoption of NEVs.

BAIC made a splash with its “3X3” Magnecore Electric Drive Super Solution and models like the BJ30 and BJ60 Thunder, attracting off-road enthusiasts with a themed booth. The company’s Vice President, Peng Gang, emphasized how the solution enhances off-road performance through the integration of electric drive technology. BAIC’s focus on expanding its electric off-road lineup reflects the industry’s trend towards premiumization, improved quality, and value-focused compact vehicles.

Baojun, another Chinese manufacturer, showcased the Yep EV, featuring a unique four-wheel independent drive system that enables lateral driving. The updated Yep Plus 2025 model incorporated driver-assistance features for urban navigation.

GAC Honda took the opportunity to debut its new EV sub-brand, “YeP,” unveiling the production-ready YeP7 with independent suspension and chassis improvements.

Dongfeng Nissan also made waves at the event by unveiling the N7 electric sedan, set for a 2025 launch. The vehicle boasts advanced sensing technology and a high-performance processor to enhance driving comfort and functionality.

The event also highlighted advancements in intelligent systems and lightweight materials, with Jiyue, a joint venture between Baidu and Geely, showcasing the Robo X concept car. The vehicle utilizes carbon fiber construction and AI-based interfaces for enhanced interaction.

Overall, the Guangzhou International Auto Show 2024 is expected to generate significant consumer interest and drive sales as the year draws to a close. The event showcased key developments from the past year while introducing technologies that are poised to shape the industry in 2025.
