Great Wall Motor (GWM) achieved its highest monthly sales this year in August, driven by strong performance in new energy vehicles (NEVs) and overseas markets. According to a recent announcement on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, GWM sold a total of 115,558 vehicles in August, marking a 22.33 percent year-on-year increase and a 10.72 percent rise from July.
Overseas sales played a significant role in GWM’s success, reaching a record high of 45,166 units in August. This represented an 11.65 percent year-on-year increase and accounted for 39.09 percent of the total monthly sales. The company’s NEV sales also saw impressive growth, with 37,495 units sold in August, up 50.92 percent year-on-year.
Haval, one of GWM’s sub-brands, continued to be the primary sales driver, selling 68,912 units in August. This marked a 22.69 percent year-on-year increase and accounted for 59.63 percent of GWM’s total monthly sales. The Tank brand also performed well, selling 20,022 units in August, contributing 17.33 percent to the overall sales.
The premium Wey brand experienced a surge in sales, with 8,028 units sold in August, representing a 167.51 percent year-on-year increase. However, there was a 20.08 percent decline in sales compared to the previous month.
From January to August, GWM sold a total of 789,719 vehicles, up 5.94 percent year-on-year. Overseas sales during this period reached 283,912 units, accounting for 35.95 percent of the total sales. The Haval brand led the way with 446,560 units sold, while the Tank brand sold 143,702 vehicles.
Overall, GWM’s strong performance in August can be attributed to robust overseas sales and the growing demand for NEVs. The company continues to expand its presence in international markets while maintaining a strong foothold in the domestic market. With a diverse portfolio of brands catering to different consumer segments, GWM is well-positioned for future growth and success.
