Kia is set to launch its new electric sedan, the EV4 GT, in the US, and it’s already creating quite a buzz. The EV4 GT is being touted as a potential rival to the Tesla Model 3 Performance, but with a more affordable price tag. With a starting price of around $35,000 to $40,000, the EV4 GT is expected to offer a high-performance driving experience at a competitive price point.
The EV4 GT has already made a splash in Korea, where it quickly became the best-selling domestic electric sedan in May. With its sleek, fastback silhouette, the EV4 GT has the looks of a sports car, and Kia is planning to up the ante with a high-performance upgrade. The upcoming EV4 GT is expected to feature an AWD dual-motor powertrain, similar to Kia’s other GT models, like the EV6 GT.
A recent video from KindelAuto gives us a closer look at the EV4 GT being tested on US streets. The video reveals some design elements, such as Kia’s signature vertical LED headlights with Star Map lighting and the new Tiger Face grille design. The EV4 GT is expected to offer an EPA-estimated driving range of up to 330 miles and will be equipped with a built-in NACS port for recharging at Tesla Superchargers.
In terms of pricing and performance, the EV4 GT is expected to be priced around $50,000 to $55,000 for the high-performance variant. This puts it in direct competition with the Tesla Model 3 Performance, which starts at $54,990 with a range of 298 miles and a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of 2.9 seconds.
As the EV4 GT prepares for its US launch later this year, the question remains: will it be able to stand up to the Tesla Model 3 Performance? With its combination of style, performance, and affordability, the EV4 GT is shaping up to be a compelling option in the electric sports car market.
