Here’s the New Alfa Romeo Stelvio Before You’re Supposed to See It

Alfa Romeo is gearing up to unveil the second generation of its popular Stelvio SUV, which has been on the market for nearly a decade. With the automotive industry moving towards electrification, the Italian automaker is under pressure to introduce a more modern and sustainable version of the Stelvio. While the official reveal is set for later this year, leaked images give us a sneak peek at the upcoming model’s exterior design.

The new Stelvio features a complete overhaul compared to its predecessor, with a more futuristic and daring look. The absence of visible exhaust tips suggests that we’re looking at the electric version of the SUV, although Alfa Romeo has confirmed that there will also be traditional internal combustion engine options available. The trademarked front grille, known as the scudetto, remains a signature Alfa Romeo design element, but the rest of the SUV showcases a departure from the brand’s usual styling cues.

The exterior design of the new Stelvio is characterized by slim upper daytime running lights and a unique set of main headlights integrated into the bumper. The profile of the SUV hints at a larger size compared to the current model, with a two-tone color scheme and flush door handles for improved aerodynamics. At the rear, the taillights have an unconventional oval shape that converges into a triangle, while the tailgate appears to be square with a visible rear wiper.

Underneath the bold exterior design lies the STLA Large platform, a new architecture developed in partnership with Stellantis. This platform will allow the Stelvio to grow in size, offering more interior space and a more comfortable ride. While speculations suggested that the Stelvio could adopt a new inline-six engine, Alfa Romeo has confirmed that it will retain its twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 powerplant. This decision is in line with the company’s strategy to maintain its unique engine offerings in the face of evolving emissions regulations.

Overall, the upcoming Stelvio promises to be a significant leap forward for Alfa Romeo, with a more modern design language and advanced technology under the hood. The SUV is set to debut later this year alongside its sedan counterpart, the new Giulia, both of which will mark a new chapter for the Italian automaker. With the automotive industry moving towards electrification and sustainability, Alfa Romeo is poised to stay ahead of the curve with its upcoming models.
