Here’s Why Your Fuel Mixture Is Just as Important as Your Oil Mixture

When it comes to maintaining the health of your car’s engine, the type of fuel you use is just as important as the oil you choose. A recent study conducted by the Austrian Competence Center for Tribology highlighted the significance of fuel additives in reducing engine wear.

In the study, engineers compared the wear on piston rings in engines running fuel with friction modifiers to those running fuel without these additives. The results were striking – the engine using fuel with friction modifiers had over four times less wear compared to the engine running without them. This is crucial because piston rings rubbing against cylinder walls are where most engine wear occurs, making it a critical area for fuel and oil to work effectively.

It’s important to note that the presence of friction modifiers in fuel is unrelated to the octane rating. In the study, both fuels had the same octane level, with the only difference being the additive package. This emphasizes the need for a high-quality fuel with a rich additive package to reduce wear and friction-related damage.

One recommended fuel with a beneficial additive package is Shell’s V-Power Nitro+ gasoline, known for its ability to minimize wear and friction-related issues. However, it’s essential to research and choose a fuel brand that offers a similar additive package to ensure optimal engine performance and longevity.

In conclusion, while high-quality motor oil is essential for engine maintenance, using a fuel with the right additives can significantly impact engine wear. By investing in a fuel with friction modifiers, you can protect your engine and ensure its longevity. Make sure to choose a fuel brand with a beneficial additive package to maximize the health and performance of your car’s engine.
