Hesai Group, the largest LiDAR maker in China, has recently secured a significant order from Leapmotor, a leading automotive manufacturer. The agreement was signed at Leapmotor’s headquarters in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, solidifying their strategic cooperation. As per the agreement, Leapmotor will purchase 200,000 units of Hesai’s ATX LiDAR for their production models starting in 2025.

Hesai is the exclusive LiDAR supplier to Leapmotor, providing them with advanced perception technology support. The ATX LiDAR, which was introduced in the first quarter of this year, is built on Hesai’s proven AT platform and features the latest fourth-generation chip architecture. This cutting-edge technology has attracted orders from 11 domestic and international automakers for its compact size, long-range capabilities, and ultra-wide angle.

The partnership between Hesai and Leapmotor began last March, with the first model equipped with Hesai’s LiDAR, the Leapmotor C10, hitting the market in March 2024. This marked a significant milestone as LiDAR was introduced to the mass consumer market in the affordable RMB 160,000 price range.

Recently, Leapmotor unveiled the B10 SUV, the first model in its B-series, which received an overwhelming response with 31,688 pre-orders within 48 hours of pre-sales. The B10 features two LiDAR-equipped variants supplied by Hesai, making it the first EV in its price range to offer LiDAR technology. This innovation enhances the vehicle’s driving capabilities, making it a popular choice among consumers.

In addition to Leapmotor, Hesai is also a LiDAR supplier to Li Auto, a major extended-range electric vehicle manufacturer. Li Auto is set to update its current models by making LiDAR standard across its entire lineup in May, focusing on smart driving hardware upgrades.

Hesai’s LiDAR deliveries have seen a significant increase, totaling 501,900 units in 2024. The company aims to ship 1.2 million to 1.5 million units in 2025, with ADAS LiDAR accounting for over 80% of the shipments. The partnership with Leapmotor is expected to strengthen the perception of the brand among potential buyers, further establishing its position in the market.

With Hesai’s advanced LiDAR technology and Leapmotor’s innovative approach to EV manufacturing, the collaboration is poised to drive the future of smart and sustainable mobility. The integration of LiDAR technology in affordable EV models is a significant step towards enhancing safety and driving capabilities in the automotive industry.
