The Chinese MIIT has officially declared that the Hongqi E009 pure electric sedan is set to enter the market with an estimated price tag of around 200,000 yuan (28,100 USD), following numerous spy shots of the vehicle. The Hongqi E009 made its debut as a concept car at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year, with reports suggesting that mass production could commence in October 2025.
The production version of the Hongqi E009 boasts dimensions of 4820 mm in length, 1915 mm in width, 1480 mm in height, and a 2900 mm wheelbase. It comes in two different curb weights – 1890 kg and 2018 kg, with total weights of 2340 kg and 2468 kg respectively. The sedan rides on 235/50R18 tires and features an approach angle of 15° and a departure angle of 20°.
Built on Hongqi’s self-developed Tiangong Electric Platform, the Hongqi E009 is powered by an electric motor model CAM190PT6 delivering a maximum power of 210 kW (282 hp) and a lithium iron phosphate battery pack from CATL. However, specific details regarding the vehicle’s range, charging time, and other powertrain parameters have not been disclosed at this time.
The Hongqi E009 sports a sleek design with a closed front face, sharp headlights, hidden door handles, and a rear ducktail. Optional configurations include different rim styles, a rear camera, and various front logo designs.
Looking ahead, Hongqi has ambitious goals for its new energy vehicles, aiming to sell over 1 million vehicles annually by 2025, with new energy vehicle sales exceeding 500,000 units. By 2030, the company hopes to surpass 1.5 million annual vehicle sales, with new energy vehicles driving the majority of sales. Additionally, Hongqi aims for overseas sales to account for more than 10% of total sales by 2025, increasing to 25% by 2030.
In the first half of this year, Hongqi saw impressive wholesale sales numbers, exceeding 201,530 units with a year-on-year increase of 42.6%. Retail sales also performed well, surpassing 190,950 units with a year-on-year increase of 25%.
