Lego McLaren P1 Model: A Masterpiece of Detail
Renowned Lego builder, Lasse Hansen, has set a new standard with his latest creation – a Lego model of the McLaren P1. Hansen proudly boasts that the level of detail in the Lego P1 is “unsurpassed”, and upon closer inspection, it’s easy to see why.
Every intricate feature of the real McLaren P1 has been faithfully reproduced in Hansen’s Lego model. From the seven-speed gearbox that can be operated with a small paddle behind the steering wheel to the iconic dihedral doors, adjustable rear wing, and powerful V8 engine – the Lego P1 is a true replica of its real-life counterpart.
What sets this Lego model apart is the incorporation of the P1’s different engine modes. With a flick of a tiny switch inside the cockpit, you can switch between hybrid mode, where the gearbox and V8 engine come to life as you roll the car, and E-mode, where the electric motor silently hums underneath the car.
Constructed using 3800 existing Lego Technic parts, Hansen only needed to create eight bespoke elements for the new model. One of the most challenging pieces to design were the wheels, which had to be both sturdy enough to support the weight of the model and intricate enough to capture the essence of the real P1.
This isn’t Lego’s first foray into the world of McLaren. The Danish toy company has previously collaborated with McLaren on Technic models like the Senna GTR and the MCL36 Formula 1 racer. However, the decision to immortalize the P1 in Lego form was a no-brainer, according to McLaren design boss, Tobias Sühlmann.
As Sühlmann explains, “The P1 was a very special car when it launched in 2013 due to its hybrid technology. It was only fitting that it should be the next Ultimate Car Concept series set from Lego, especially as we celebrate its 10-year anniversary.”
