Huawei-backed Aito is set to launch its newest model, the Aito M8, next month, adding to the competition in the mid-to-large-size SUV segment. This premium family-oriented SUV is expected to compete with Li Auto’s Li L8, with analysts predicting sales of around 120,000 units by the end of 2025.
Aito, a new energy vehicle (NEV) brand created through a partnership between Huawei and Seres Group, introduced the Aito M8 as the latest addition to its lineup. The brand, part of the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) business, already offers models like the Aito M5, Aito M7, and Aito M9, with the Aito M7 exclusively available in extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) versions.
The Aito M8, recently listed in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) catalog, will initially come in an EREV variant. It will offer both 5-seat and 6-seat configurations, featuring the signature Aito family design language. The SUV measures 5,190 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,795 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,105 mm.
Consumers can choose between two battery pack capacities, 51.975 kWh and 36.019 kWh, offering three different ranges: 235 km, 240 km, and 161 km. The Aito M8 EREV is equipped with a 1.5 L engine generating 118 kW, along with a front motor (165 kW) and a rear motor (227 kW) supporting a top speed of 200 km per hour.
While initially filed as an EREV, reports suggest that the Aito M8 may also be released in a battery electric vehicle (BEV) variant. The vehicle is expected to be priced between RMB 350,000 ($48,170) and RMB 450,000, positioning it in competition with Li Auto’s Li L8 SUV.
Deutsche Bank analysts anticipate that the Aito M8 could sell approximately 120,000 units in 2025, projecting a price range of RMB 330,000 to RMB 470,000. This new model aims to cater to the growing demand for premium family-oriented SUVs in the market.
With the launch of the Aito M8, Aito continues to strengthen its presence in the NEV segment, offering consumers a blend of cutting-edge technology, premium features, and sustainable mobility solutions. Stay tuned for more updates on the Aito M8 and other developments in the automotive industry.
