Luxeed, a new automotive brand developed by Huawei and Chery, is currently working on an MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) model. This model is set to be the first MPV under Huawei’s HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) business. The MPV will be built on Chery’s E0X-L platform and has the internal code name “EHV.”
According to a report by 21jingji, the Luxeed MPV is positioned as a luxury product and is expected to be officially launched in the first half of next year. The model will offer both extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants, with batteries supplied by CATL.
The Luxeed MPV replaces Chery’s previously planned Sterra E08, which has been discontinued. The decision to focus on the Luxeed brand was made to leverage its stronger brand influence in the market. Some employees from the Sterra E08 project have been reassigned to Luxeed to enhance its MPV R&D capabilities.
Luxeed’s EHV model is aiming to be the first MPV under the HIMA business. This move aligns with Huawei’s strategy to expand its presence in the automotive market. The HIMA business also includes brands like Stelato, Aito, Shangjie, and Maextro.
MPVs are still considered a niche product in China’s passenger vehicle market, despite an increase in supply. In the first half of this year, MPV sales in China accounted for 4.7 percent of total passenger vehicle sales.
Luxeed has already launched the Luxeed S7 pure electric sedan and the Luxeed R7 coupe SUV under the HIMA business. The brand recently announced that updated versions of the S7 and R7 will begin pre-sales on August 8, with an official launch expected in September.
Overall, Luxeed’s focus on developing a luxury MPV aligns with Huawei’s goal to offer a diverse range of electric vehicles in the market. The brand’s strong partnership with Chery and access to advanced technology will likely position the Luxeed MPV as a competitive choice in the growing electric vehicle segment.
