Hyundai AutoEver Corporation, a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group (HMG), has recently announced its expansion of automotive cybersecurity operations to address the increasing threats to the auto industry’s shift towards connected vehicles.
The company’s chief information security officer, Choi Won-Hyuk, revealed that Hyundai AutoEver has revamped its existing IT security center into a dedicated cybersecurity division comprising 200 software engineers. Their primary focus is to safeguard Hyundai and Kia vehicles from cyber-attacks, particularly those utilizing artificial intelligence, which have been on the rise.
Earlier this year, HMG’s chairman, Chung Euisun, emphasized the importance of enhancing automotive cybersecurity technology. Analysts have pointed out that battery electric vehicles (BEVs) are particularly susceptible to cyber threats, making it crucial for automakers to prioritize cybersecurity measures.
With over seven million connected vehicles operating in South Korea alone, the challenge of ensuring cybersecurity is significant. However, Hyundai AutoEver sees this as both a challenge and a business opportunity. The company aims to provide customers with top-notch security solutions, including robust defenses against potential cyber-attacks in areas like connected cars, cloud services, and smart factories.
The company’s proactive approach to cybersecurity underscores its commitment to ensuring the safety and reliability of its vehicles in an increasingly connected world. By focusing on cutting-edge cybersecurity technologies and practices, Hyundai AutoEver is poised to lead the way in protecting the automotive industry from digital threats.
