Hyundai is gearing up to release a new electric hot hatch, and the anticipation is building. The Concept Three, revealed at IAA Mobility in Munich, offers a sneak peek at what’s to come with the IONIQ 3, the first compact EV under the IONIQ family.

The Concept Three showcases Hyundai’s new “Art of Steel” design, a departure from their current lineup. Described as a “Aero Hatch” design, it reimagines the compact EV silhouette in a bold and sporty way. The production version of the IONIQ 3 is expected to hit the market in mid-2026 as a smaller, more affordable sibling to the IONIQ 5.

Hyundai is set to unveil the electric hatchback next spring, with a European launch planned for September 2026. Xavier Martinet, Hyundai’s European boss, believes that the IONIQ 3 has the potential to be the perfect EV hot hatch, offering a blend of performance and style.

There’s even talk of giving the IONIQ 3 the “N” treatment, a high-performance upgrade that would add a new level of excitement to the hatchback. While it’s not confirmed yet, Hyundai’s head of design, Simon Loasby, sees it as a promising opportunity to cater to the growing demand for compact hot hatches in Europe.

The Concept Three measures 4,287 mm long, 1,940 mm wide, and 1,428 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,722 mm. This puts it in line with other compact EVs like the Kia EV3 and Volkswagen ID.3, both of which are also rumored to receive hot hatch variants.

If the IONIQ 3 N does become a reality, it will join the ranks of Hyundai’s high-performance EV lineup, following the IONIQ 5 N and IONIQ 6 N. Joon Park, vice president of Hyundai’s N Brand Management Group, sees the IONIQ 5 N as just the beginning, with more exciting models on the horizon.

For those eager to get behind the wheel of an affordable electric hot hatch, Hyundai already offers the IONIQ 5 N at a competitive lease price of $549 per month. With Hyundai’s commitment to innovation and performance, the IONIQ 3 is shaping up to be a game-changer in the EV market.

In conclusion, Hyundai’s upcoming IONIQ 3 electric hot hatch is generating buzz for all the right reasons. With a sleek design, potential high-performance upgrade, and competitive pricing, it’s set to make a splash in the world of electric vehicles. Keep an eye out for the official unveiling next spring and get ready to experience the future of hot hatches with Hyundai.
