Hyundai Motor Group, a leading South Korean automaker, recently made headlines with the announcement of the world’s first automated system for designing press moulds for vehicle body parts. This groundbreaking development is set to revolutionize the automotive industry by drastically reducing design times and enhancing quality and efficiency.

Press moulds, also known as dies, are essential tools used in the production of steel body panels for vehicles such as door panels, trunk lids, and hoods. Traditionally, these panels require multiple stamping processes using different moulds at each step. However, Hyundai Motor Group has streamlined this process by standardizing technical documents and design conditions for mould design and integrating separate design processes into a single automated system.

Designers can now input relevant values step by step into the system, which then automatically generates the optimal design blueprint for the press mould. This innovative system has the potential to reduce mould design times by up to 75% compared to traditional methods, while also eliminating design errors and improving overall quality.

Both of Hyundai Motor Group’s vehicle-making units, Hyundai Motor and Kia Corporation, have partially implemented the new system since 2020 and have now completed the full development of the system. This marks a significant milestone in the automotive industry, showcasing Hyundai’s commitment to innovation and efficiency.

In conclusion, Hyundai Motor Group’s automated system for designing press moulds for vehicle body parts represents a major step forward in the automotive manufacturing process. By streamlining design processes and improving efficiency, this system is set to revolutionize the way vehicles are produced, setting new standards for quality and speed in the industry.
