Hyundai Ioniq 6 N revealed as electric BMW M3 rival with 641bhp

The Hyundai N division is set to launch its second electric performance car this autumn, the highly anticipated Ioniq 6 N. With an impressive 641bhp under the hood, this new model promises to be even sharper and more sophisticated than its predecessor, the Ioniq 5 N.

In a recent interview with Autocar, Hyundai N founder and vice president Joon Park highlighted the differences between the two models. While the Ioniq 5 N is described as “a bit wilder,” the Ioniq 6 N aims to deliver a more precise driving experience. This distinction is further emphasized by the 6 N’s lower saloon silhouette, which sets it apart from its smaller sibling.

Based on the latest facelifted Ioniq 6, the 6 N features wider wheel arches to accommodate a 60mm increase in front and rear track widths. N’s chief designer, Eduardo Ramirez, explained that every design element serves a purpose, from the lower nose to the N-specific winglets and large rear spoiler, all of which contribute to the car’s aerodynamics.

Unveiled for the first time at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Ioniq 6 N shares the same powertrain as the 5 N, with a total output of 641bhp and 568lb ft of torque. However, according to N’s head of chassis control and braking, Sven Risch, the 6 N is technically an all-new car. It features new motor magnets for improved performance durability and a 7kWh heater for the 84kWh battery, ensuring optimal operating temperature.

One of the standout features of the Ioniq 6 N is its lower center of gravity compared to the 5 N. Combined with the increased track width, this design element enhances the car’s handling, making it more controllable and sharp on the road.

Overall, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N is poised to make a significant impact in the electric performance car market, offering a unique driving experience that combines power, precision, and sophistication. Stay tuned for its official launch this autumn.
