The Hyundai Ioniq 9 is causing quite a stir in the automotive world, with Hyundai’s head of design, Loasby, suggesting that it has the potential to compete in the luxury segment. In fact, Loasby believes that even Range Rover owners could be tempted to make the switch to the Ioniq 9, although he acknowledges that some may not be swayed.
Powering the Ioniq 9 are three different powertrain options. The Long Range model boasts 215bhp and a rear-wheel drive configuration, offering an impressive 385-mile range. The dual-motor variant delivers 303bhp and 376 miles per charge, while the top-of-the-line AWD Performance model churns out 429bhp and manages 372 miles. Acceleration from 0-62mph ranges from 9.4 seconds to 5.2 seconds, depending on the chosen powertrain.
Similar to the Ioniq 5 and 6, the Ioniq 9 is expected to receive a hot N variant. Each model comes equipped with an 800V, 110.3kWh battery that is capable of charging at speeds up to 354kW. Hyundai has also made improvements to address common EV customer concerns, such as enhancing battery performance consistency and providing more detailed energy usage information.
In terms of design, the Ioniq 9 is described as an ‘aerosthetic lounge’, blending desirability, aerodynamic efficiency, and interior refinement. The vehicle features unique ‘parametric’ pixel lighting designs that frame the tailgate and wrap around the front end. While full-width headlights are not allowed in the UK, cars in this region will have two separate headlight clusters.
With its impressive powertrain options, advanced battery technology, and striking design, the Hyundai Ioniq 9 is poised to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new addition to Hyundai’s lineup.
