Since entering the Chinese market in 2002, Hyundai Motor has been steadily expanding its local R&D efforts. With R&D centers in Shanghai, Yantai, and Chengdu, the automaker now has a comprehensive setup, focusing on advanced technology, passenger vehicles, and commercial vehicles. This localized expansion highlights Hyundai’s dedication to China and its commitment to driving automotive innovation globally.
Looking ahead, Hyundai Motor Advanced Technology R&D Center in China is set to open a UX Studio in Shanghai’s Jing’an District next year. This studio will serve as a crucial connection point between the brand and Chinese consumers. The company will concentrate on research and development of autonomous driving technologies, specifically targeting L2-L4 stages. Hyundai’s RoboTaxi has already obtained a demonstration operation license in Shanghai, paving the way for trial runs. Furthermore, Hyundai will tailor its new vehicle platform to suit Chinese preferences in cockpit design and will continue to invest in artificial intelligence (AI) and software-defined vehicle (SDV) technologies.
