Introducing the New Generation of Scout Vehicles: Traveler and Terra
Short overhangs, reinforced bumpers, skid plates, and body-on-frame construction are some of the key features that make the Scout Traveler and Terra “multiuse tools” and “helpful companions”. According to Scout design chief Chris Benjamin, these vehicles are designed to enable customers to do the things they want to do and make their experience easier, better, and faster.
Inside, the design of both cars is reminiscent of the original Scout II but with modern amenities. The central infotainment touchscreen is positioned above an array of physical toggles and switches that control functions such as climate control. Additionally, both vehicles offer over-the-air updates and remote diagnostics for added convenience.
“Two years in the making, the day has finally come to share the next generation of Scout vehicles with the world,” said Scott Keogh, president and CEO of Scout Motors. “The original core idea of rugged, versatile vehicles capable of off-road adventure and family duty is more relevant than ever. We are proud to revitalize this iconic American brand, create thousands of American jobs, and put American ingenuity back to work.”
Both the Scout Traveler and Terra are expected to be priced below $60,000 (£46,000), with incentives in the US bringing them closer to $50,000 (£38,500) according to Scout. These vehicles will be manufactured at the company’s factory in South Carolina, with the VW Group planning to increase the factory’s output to 200,000 units per year.
