Isuzu D-Max EV: An Electric Pick-up Truck with Impressive Features
The Isuzu D-Max EV is set to make its debut in UK showrooms in February next year, with a starting price of £59,995 (excluding VAT). This electric pick-up truck marks Isuzu’s first foray into the world of electric vehicles, offering a sustainable alternative to the traditional diesel-powered D-Max models. With a pair of electric motors – one on each axle – the D-Max EV delivers a combined output of 188bhp and 240lb ft of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0-62mph in 10.1 seconds and achieve a top speed of over 80mph.
Powering the D-Max EV is a 66.9kWh battery located under the floor, providing a WLTP range of 163 miles. The battery can be charged at speeds of up to 50kW, allowing for a 20-80% top-up in just one hour. Despite the addition of the battery, the D-Max EV retains its off-road capability, boasting 210mm of ground clearance, a wading depth of 600mm, and approach and departure angles of 30.5deg and 24.2deg, respectively. The vehicle also features permanent four-wheel drive and a Rough Terrain Mode for extreme off-road conditions.
In terms of practicality, the D-Max EV can carry over 1000kg in its loadbed and tow up to 3500kg. However, the impact of towing on the vehicle’s range has yet to be specified. Weighing in at 2350kg, the D-Max EV maintains its robust build and rugged capabilities. The vehicle’s handling has been improved with the inclusion of a bespoke de Dion rear suspension system, replacing the traditional leaf springs.
Inside, the D-Max EV mirrors the diesel D-Max, offering a range of features such as a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone mirroring, a digital driver’s display, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, and heated front seats. The seamless integration of electric powertrain technology with the proven design and functionality of the D-Max makes the EV a compelling choice for those seeking a sustainable and capable pick-up truck.
With its impressive performance, off-road capabilities, and practicality, the Isuzu D-Max EV is poised to make a mark in the electric vehicle market. Stay tuned for its arrival in showrooms next year and experience the future of electric pick-up trucks.
