Jaguar Celebrates 50th Anniversary of E-Type with Limited Production Models
Jaguar has made headlines by bringing back the iconic E-Type into production, albeit in a very limited capacity, to commemorate 50 years since the legendary GT’s retirement. The renowned automaker’s in-house historic vehicles division, Jaguar Classic, has meticulously crafted two new E-Types from scratch for a special client in Southeast Asia. These new models have been constructed using original blueprints, marking a historic moment in automotive history as they pay homage to the original Series I E-Type while drawing inspiration from the Series III Commemorative Edition.
Both of the newly minted E-Types are drophead coupés, with one showcasing a stunning Signet Green finish and the other adorned in Opal Black. These color schemes harken back to the options available to customers in 1974, adding a touch of nostalgia to these modern marvels. Under the hood, these E-Types are powered by a 3.8-liter straight-six engine, now equipped with electronic fuel injection and mated to a five-speed manual gearbox for improved performance.
While Jaguar has not disclosed the exact power output of these bespoke creations, it is safe to assume that they surpass the Series I’s original 265bhp. The interior of the Commemorative E-Types has also been subtly modernized, incorporating amenities such as a Bluetooth radio, heated windscreen, hand-woven Bridge of Weir tan leather seats, and an aluminum center console engraved with an original E-Type design blueprint.
Additionally, the iconic ‘growler’ badges on these limited-production models have been meticulously refinished by the esteemed Birmingham jewelry firm Deakin & Francis in 18-carat gold and mother-of-pearl. While the price tag for these exclusive E-Types remains undisclosed, it is expected to far exceed the £315,000 cost of Jaguar Classic’s ‘Reborn’ E-Type restoration project from 2021.
These Commemorative E-Types arrive on the heels of Jaguar’s decision to cease production of the F-Type sports car, XE and XF saloons, E-Pace crossover, and the impending conclusion of F-Pace SUV manufacturing. Looking towards the future, Jaguar will unveil a concept for its first electric luxury GT in December, signaling a shift towards electrification. However, the automaker will not have any new models available for sale for approximately a year as it focuses on aftersales services and brand positioning ahead of its all-electric reinvention slated for 2026.
