Jaguar’s controversial EV looks fake in its first public debut [Video]

Jaguar’s controversial Type 00 EV concept continues to make waves in the automotive industry. The ultra-luxury vehicle made its public debut in Paris, attracting attention from both admirers and critics alike. Despite its polarizing design, the concept car has garnered significant interest, with celebrities such as Barry Keoghan, Jamie Dornan, and Zoë Saldaña taking it for a spin.

The Type 00, which was unveiled late last year, has been compared to a variety of pop culture references, including Pink Panther and Barbie’s dream car. Even Elon Musk and Lucid Motors couldn’t resist poking fun at Jaguar’s bold design. However, the British automaker is embracing the spotlight and using the attention to revamp its image for the electric vehicle era.

During its public debut, the blocky two-door concept maintained its radical appearance, almost appearing as if it was generated by artificial intelligence. Jaguar is positioning the Type 00 as a preview of what’s to come from the brand, as it prepares to launch a new lineup of luxury EVs. CEO Adrian Mardell hinted that the upcoming models could be priced around £150,000, or nearly $200,000.

The first model from Jaguar’s new electric lineup will be a luxury four-door GT, with testing currently underway for its launch later this year. The company is focused on advancing the vehicle’s engineering and electrical architecture to ensure a range of around 430 miles for the most efficient variant. Production is scheduled to begin in mid-2026, with plans for at least two more luxury EVs in the pipeline, including a sedan and an SUV.

Despite the initial controversy surrounding the Type 00, Jaguar is determined to make a statement in the EV market and establish itself as a key player in the luxury electric vehicle segment. The British automaker’s bold design choices and commitment to innovation are sure to keep enthusiasts and critics alike eagerly anticipating the future of Jaguar’s electric vehicle lineup.
